What are you up to ADF research team?

ADF is taking part in we.learn.it, an initiative for schools in Europe, which promotes inquiry-based learning opportunities (and especially discovery learning) for young learners. We.learn.it aims to develop creative thinking skills by allowing learners to find different ways to answer a question, learn something new, or solve a problem.

We are utilizing the experiences here at ADF in creating a toolkit to support teachers and learners developing “Learning expeditions” in Schools around Europe. If you are interested and want to know more about what we are doing, contact Miko (miko.laakso (at) aalto.fi).

Mathematics and Arts Colloquium / Jeff Weeks: Shape of Space.

When we look out on a clear night, the universe seems infinite. Yet this infinity might be an illusion. During the first half of the presentation, computer games will introduce the concept of a “multiconnected universe”. Interactive 3D graphics will then take the viewer on a tour of several possible shapes for space. Finally, we’ll see how recent satellite data provide tantalizing clues to the true shape of our universe.

The only prerequisites for this talk are curiosity and imagination. For middle school and high scholl students, University students, people interested in astronomy, all members of the Aalto community, and other Universities. Chair: Ilkka Niemelä

Opening party of Learning Hub Greenhouse

Learning Hub project team is delighted to invite you to the opening party of the new Learning Hub Greenhouse space at Aalto University School of Science. The program includes short cheerful speeches, traditional cupcakes-and-bubbly, and many smiling faces in one place.

Learning Hub Greenhouse is the third prototype of the project in Otaniemi campus. It is a user-driven learning space open for everyone, from students to university staff, from company representatives to general public. It serves as a meeting point, venue for varying events, working space or a cozy living room where people from different backgrounds and varying disciplines come together to communicate, collaborate and discover. Interaction between strangers is encouraged.

Learning Hub Greenhouse was created by joint efforts of Aalto University Library and a student team from Aalto University School of Science with invaluable support from departments of Information and Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering, and Aalto University Facility Services.

Aalto University Learning Hub is an umbrella concept that unites a network of independent experimental learning spaces within Aalto University campus. Learning Hubs have several functions and reasons to exist: they provide a flexible learning environment better suited to current  needs, demonstrate who Aalto University is and what it does, and serve as unusual exhibition space of the knowledge and know-how that exists in Aalto University. On the practical level, Learning Hub project aims to take systemic approach to grassroots activity connecting good initiatives with recourses to create tailor-made learning and working environments.

Metso/ Aaltonaut

Aaltonaut is an interdisciplinary minor subject aimed at Bachelor’s level students in the fields of Engineering, Business and Arts and Design. The first Aaltonaut students will be invited to the studies in Fall 2013. The following Aaltonaut internship positions are available for all Bachelor’s students already in summer 2013. An academic internship training as well as a closing seminar (3 ETCS in total) are included to the Aaltonaut internship programme.

Työnkuvaus

Murjotteluparin tehtävänä on miettiä koko paperikoneen automaatiokokonaisuuteen radikaalia kustannusten alennusta.
